Pit of Heresy dungeon guide
Pit of Heresy arrived on October 29, 2019, with Shadowkeep. It’s a three-player Hive dungeon deep beneath the Scarlet Keep on the Moon, built around Hive swords, spooky tunnels and an Ogre you really don’t want to argue with. You unlock it through a short quest from Eris Morn.
1. Necropolis
Note the runes shown in the first room, then clear the three matching areas. Each one holds a Broken Blade miniboss that only takes damage from the Hive swords that Knights drop, and each needs a different sword move:
- The Knight (Might of the Broken Blade): a normal swing.
- The Wizard (Omen of the Broken Blade): a heavy attack.
- The Shrieker (Oracle of the Broken Blade): guard with the sword to send its projectiles back.
Clear all three and the way forward opens.
2. Tunnels of Despair
Shoot the goo to get into the caves, kill the Heretical Knights for their Void orbs and deposit them to put out the three doors. The Harrowing Pariahs roaming the tunnels are invincible Ogres. Don’t fight them, just avoid them.
3. Chamber of Suffering
Someone must stand on the plate under the Annihilator Totem at all times, or the team wipes. Everyone else dunks Knight orbs to clear six runes. Meanwhile Curse of Suffering stacks up over time and makes you take more and more damage, so keep moving and finish the dunks quickly.
4. The Harrow
A maze. Remember the three symbols shown at the entrance, find them inside, and kill the Malevolent Ritualist Wizard at each one to break the three locks.
5. Zulmak, Instrument of Torment
Kill the three Broken Blade minibosses with the right sword moves again to get three Void orbs, and deposit them at the centre. Zulmak only takes damage while you stand in the central circle. When he kneels and the crystal starts charging, get out of the circle, because anyone still inside dies. His flame line and fire patches on the ground hurt too. Repeat the cycle until he falls.
Xenophage
Xenophage, the Solar machine gun, doesn’t drop at random. It comes from a quest that starts with a statue puzzle on the Moon, sends you to light braziers at Anchor of Light and solve rune puzzles in four Moon Lost Sectors, and ends inside Pit of Heresy, where a hidden path leads to the secret boss Volmâr, the Tempted. Hand it in to Eris Morn afterwards. The full loot table is below.
