The Dark Within is a Grimoire card from the original Destiny (Destiny 1), found under Activities → Story: Earth, Old Russia. Grimoire cards held most of the game's lore and were read on Bungie.net and in the companion app, not in the game itself.
Card text
"We always feared the Hive would rise again, harbingers of the Darkness to come. Their presence on Earth demands that we strike their strongholds on the Moon, the last place we faced them. A lot of Guardians never come back, especially the new. Are you new? Oh. Well! I'm sure you'll make it." - Cayde-6
Grimoire text written by Bungie, shown as it appears in the Destiny 1 game files.
